On our drive from Townsville through to Kurrimine we
stopped at Cardwell. What a beautiful place,
it is situated right on the oceans edge and appears to be a very low lying
town, which made us realise just how easy it is for this town to be flooded
during the wet or cyclone seasons. See

When we drove out of Cardwell we saw this shop with the
big crab on its roof, and naturally had to take a photo.
We arrived at Kurrimine beach on the 8th of
May and originally booked in for a four day stay, not expecting too much from
this little town but as the park was situated right on the beach and the
caretakers were great we took the opportunity to extend our stay, besides I
wanted to grease the wheel bearings on the caravan and do a few minor
repairs. I am so glad that I took the
opportunity to do so as the weather had turned and it was far too windy for the
beach. When I removed the driver side wheels
on the caravan, I found that one of the wheels was completely bald which meant
that we had to wait for Monday when the tyre shop opened to have the four tyres
replaced.
Kurrimine Beach is a little sleepy hollow and the closest
town is Innisfail which is also approximately 2 hours’ drive to Cairns. We took the opportunity whilst at Kurrimine
to visit Cairns and go to the doctor for my 3 monthly check up and collect a
new lot of medicines.
We did not do much in Cairns as we had previously visited
Cairns and Port Douglas a year and a half ago when we received a gift voucher
with flights and accommodation from Angelique, Blake and Adrian and felt that we
had done the entire tourist destination; therefore we had no reason to do the
same again and besides the cost of staying in Cairns would have been
substantially more than we had expected.
The drives in and around Kurrimine are fabulous and the
highlight of our visit was the $10 and $15 dinners at the hotel close by. We
had a $10 dinner on the Sunday and both Shirley and I were blown away, it was a
three course meal with soup for starters and a bbq with salads and a choice of
three deserts. As you may well be aware
these prices are unheard of in Australia, so naturally we made the most of it,
in fact we went back to the hotel on three other occasions.

on our whole trip we were so close to the water’s edge, it was just beautiful,
however at night the midges and mosquitoes did come out in force.
We
heard about a beautiful spot close to Innisfail which is in Babinda called the
boulders and when we visited this area we were completely taken by surprise, we
could not imagine a more picturesque place with such clear water.
These
pictures could be used for a screen saver any day.
There
are far too many pictures to publish, these are but a few that we are able to
share.
A
little further down the road we came across Josephine Falls which was equally
as impressive, we saw a group of young people enjoying themselves and sliding
down the rapids. They were having the
time of their lives.

The
drive from Innisfail to Cairns does not disappoint either, especially when you
have views like this. All these areas
again appear to rely on sugarcane farming.
All
in all the stay at Kurrimine was most enjoyable and the day visit to Mission
beach and Bingil bay was just as nice.
